Prologue: The Vestibule is the prologue of Bayonetta
You'll begin in a graveyard. You'll start out with going through some tutorials. The first is for punching, the second is for kicking (then it shows you a list of various combos you can do), the third is learning how to Evade/Dodge, the final one is learning how to dodge in order to activate Witch Time. These are your very basic skills that you will continuously use throughout the game.
Now that you have finished the Tutorial you'll return to the grave yard and be facing a group of Affinity. Affinity is the lowest class of enemy, in this game Angels are your enemies. As you defeat them you'll be given information screen on what the gold rings are, halos, these are used to buy skills, items, accessories and, weapons much later in the game.
Tutorial - Part 2
After you defeat a few waves of Affinity you will see a few heads with wings. These angels are called Decorations but don't get a proper introduction until later into the game. Once you see them you'll go through a second tutorial. The first will show you how to shoot your guns (if this is you first playthrough you will have Handguns) then you will learn how to do a Bullet climax
Verse 1 Cont.
After the tutorial you'll return to the graveyard to face more Decorations. After defeating the first few you'll then fight a combination of Affinity and Decorations. Most of the enemies in the game will be a mix, they won't all be low class angels but they also won't always just be the same ones.
You'll go through a brief cutscene. Once it ends you will now be in a new area. It'll be a continuation of the graveyard but in a different section. Here you will face a group of Affinity plus a large angel. This angel is actually called Applaud (Grace & Glory on Hard/Non-Stop Infinite Climax) but won't be introduced until the next chapter (Fairness will appear after Applaud's defeat playing on Hard/Infinite Climax).
Note: It is possible to be introduced to the item Umbran Tears of Blood. They are collectibles, there's 101 of them; 1 is rewarded for each achievement you earn and the rest you will find in the chapters on Normal, Hard and Non-Stop Infinite Climax Difficulties. You can get You Want To Touch Me? and Nice Try achievement in this section if you dodge and successfully activate Witch Time 10 times (for the second one you have to do 10 in a row)
Verse 2After an introduction with a Mysterious Woman you will now have a 5 minute time limit to complete the verse, and if you let the time run out (which should not be a problem on Normal), the plane you and the woman are on will crash, and you will die. Notice that you will now have a health bar and small circles underneath, those are your Magic Gauges. The Gauges tell you how much magic you have, the more orbs that are filled the more magic, you use magic to perform attacks such as a Torture Attack.
You are in Witch Time the entire section so angels (Grace & Glory on Hard/Infinite Climax) will be moving slowly. Here you can learn how to do Torture Attacks, your goal is to perform 3. A Torture Attack summons some sort of torture device like Iron Maidens or a Guillotine to either kill or hurt an enemy. Low class angels like Affinity will be killed in one hit.
After the second torture attack (probably around the 2:30 mark) you'll exit Witch Time. Now that you got the basics down for a torture attack finish the last one. Two cutscenes finish off the chapter, after which you will get your primary weapons, the Scarborough Fair, and be sent on your way to the main action of the game.
