Red & Black, occasionally stylized as Red and Black, is the 15th track of Disc 2 of the Bayonetta Original Soundtrack. The theme primarily serves as a boss theme for fighting Jeanne in the first game.

Bayonetta[]

In the first game in the series, Red & Black is played as the accompanying music during the second and third fights against Jeanne in Chapters V and XII. The track also has different elements of it reprised in the final battle with Jeanne with the track Blood & Darkness. During the final Alfheim where you get to play as Jeanne, this is her battle theme.

Bayonetta (Pachislot)[]

Bayonetta Pachislot features a new vocal version of Red & Black that plays during the Jeanne boss fight after successfully matching three blue Big Chance symbols. As well as lyrics performed by vocalist Anna Vieste, the track features some additional instrumentation but is otherwise unchanged.

Lyrics[]

Break out of this dream!

(Open my eyes)
(Wake up to the moonrise)

Raise your eyes, look up at the cloudy sky (I know things aren't as they seem)
The full moon makes your blood run wild (everything that's to come and all that's been)
At the time I understood, I was your sole existence, (Gentle, illusion, divine,)
Your reason to be! (whose is this fantasy, yours or mine?)
And I felt, there's something that must not be lost (the time has come)
Within me (the time has)

Memory which increases depths of emotion
We’re birds of a feather, clothed in red and black
Mutual thought is now finally drawing near
The conversations soon will be in combat

(Shades of shadow wrap around me)
(Night so hypnotizing)

You know that I don't need empathy (I'm sure that she sees without me, who would she be?)
Tears must have been (The dawn of my fate is here,)
Discarded in the distant past (A storm brews unleashing power and its fear)
Even when the time of fate (Eyes in the full moon shine)
Draws closer now, and it shows (Here we are intertwined)
That you must stand alone and strong (The darkness inviting)
Soul in pure transparency (And this day turns into night)

Memory which increases depths of emotion (The time has come!)
We’re birds of a feather, clothed in red and black
I will defend my right to live as I do (The time has come!)
To fight free, you don’t have to remember me

Memory which increases depths of emotion (My time has come!)
We’re birds of a feather, clothed in red and black
Mutual thought is now finally drawing near (Our time has come!)
The conversations soon will be in…

(Time that slows a moment lasts one thousand days)
(Blood turns black into red)

The time has come for you and me!

Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U[]

Trivia[]

  • The title of the song, Red & Black, refers to Bayonetta's black attire and Jeanne's red attire being against each other. This concept is further evolved in the final battle against Jeanne when the colors become Blood & Darkness.
  • Red & Black can be heard on Jeanne's model page in the Gallery of the original Bayonetta.
  • Red & Black is the only song in Bayonetta series that was originally instrumental and incorporated lyrics in a later installment.
